The cod genome published in Nature

August 10th 2011, Nature published the paper on the cod genome reporting that cod has an immune system unique among vertebrates in that it lacks the MHCII gene, having consequences for vaccine development.

The project has been coordinated from the University of Oslo and groups from the Computational Biology Unit (Uni Computing) and the Departments of Informatics and Biology at the University of Bergen have participated in the project.

The completion of the cod genome demonstrates that Norwegian groups are at the fore-front of genomics research. The genome will be an important resource for cod and genome research as well as for economic exploitation in aquaculture and fisheries.
